Discovery time- Streets

Theanim, Ivysha and Darren moving their cars around the streets.

Tehoia, TeAriki, Tyler and Josh building houses around the street map.

Room 2 students making cars out of boxes.

Jade, Josh and Darren drawing streets using chalk to make streets for their cars.

On Monday 23rd May, Room 2 looked at the theme of STREETS for Discovery time. Some children made cars, some built houses on the street map, and some made their own streets using chalk... This was a lot of fun and it provoked a lot of talk about road rules!

Discovery time- Construction/Dwellings

This is Pepe Joshua constructing a house.

This is Tyler building a bird house. Tyler was waiting for the bird to arrive and when it did arrive, he had a lovely bed ready and a perch for the bird to sit on.

Forde became a builder for the afternoon and was very good at using a hammer.

Tayla created a house with the help of Tehoia. The house had bedrooms, a kitchen and even a toilet!

Manix is showing his patterning skills!
Sootie, TeAriki and Jade made a fabulous house and spaceships.

Today in discovery time room 2 looked at construction. We talked about what different houses look like and who would live in the different houses. The children were given boxes, paddle pop sticks, match sticks, timber, blocks, play hammers and saws, and lego. Here are some photos of the different dwellings the children made. The children were learning to share during this discovery time as this was an area of need due to new children starting and other children moving on to Room 4. They did a terrific job of sharing, especially on the blocks table where there were only two hammers and one saw to play with.
